Originally built as a dormitory-style summer camp for the Soviets, the Terelj Hotel is undergoing an extreme makeover by one of Mongolia's most successful businessmen and a talented team of consultants from Western Canada. The 150,000 sq. foot resort will boast 50 luxurious suites, plus a world class Presidential and Honeymoon suite, a selection of restaurants, a pool pavilion, world-class spa, conference facilities and a wide variety of day trips and overnight excursions.

Located near the birthplace of Chinggis (Genghis) Khan, the "great unifier", the Terelj Hotel Resort and Spa unites traditional and contemporary elements to create a truly unique experience for the discerning traveler. The resort will be reminiscent of a 19th Century country palace with classical mouldings and inlaid marble floors incorporating the use of locally produced cashmere and camel hair. Mongolian artisans have been commissioned to create paintings and sculptures for the interior and for the extensive grounds.

John Garden, President of Braidwood Hospitality Management, and Director, Global Sales & Marketing for the hotel will head up the global sales office "Our primary target will be North American & International Tour Wholesalers, local and international companies for incentive travel, conferences and meetings along with the Mongolian based Diplomatic Corp as well as individual travelers located in Europe, Asia and North America." says Garden. Mongolia, the land of the Blue Sky, offers a glimpse of a culture and natural environment as yet unchanged by the modern world. Towering mountains, primeval forests, steppes and desert remain untamed, and nomads continue to tend their horses, sheep and camels and to build seasonal communities of gers (circular felt tents).

The Mongolian Tourism Board reports that 39 per cent of visitors to Mongolia travel to Terelj, where many treks into the Mongolian wilderness begin.

Established in 2003, Braidwood Hospitality Management provides sales & marketing, management and consulting services to a wide variety of hotels and resorts across North America and Asia. "Our management team offers assistance in the development of all areas of hotel operations." says Garden "Our areas of expertise are substantial."

4) Announcing TERELJ RESORT HOTEL AND SPA at Gorkhi-Terelj National Park Opening 2007

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (September 2, 2005) - Mongolia's first five-star resort is scheduled for the soft opening in Fall of 2007.  The new Terelj Hotel and Spa is located on the borders of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and the Khaan Khentii Strictly Protected Area, 50 km north of the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

Originally built as a summer camp for the Soviets, the dormitory-style Terelj Hotel is undergoing an extreme makeover by one of Mongolia's most successful businessmen and a talented team of consultants from Western Canada.  The 150,000 sq. foot resort will boast 50 luxurious suites, a selection of restaurants, a pool pavilion, spa, conference facilities, and a wedding garden (an innovation for Mongolia where weddings usually take place in a government office).

Located near the birthplace of Chinggis (Genghis) Khaan, the "great unifier", the Terelj Hotel and Spa unites traditional and contemporary elements to create a truly unique experience for the discerning traveler.  Graham & deAraujo Design Studio Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada, is leading the resurrection project, creating a resort that is reminiscent of an 19th Century country palace with classical mouldings and inlaid marble floors, and incorporating the use of locally produced cashmere and camel hair.  Mongolian artisans have been commissioned to create paintings and sculptures for the interior and for the extensive grounds.

The resort is perched on a tributary of the Terelj River, and takes full advantage of its location in a spectacular valley with eroded rock formations, pine-covered mountains and grasslands carpeted with perennial wildflowers and edelweiss.

Referred to as the Land of the Blue Sky, Mongolia offers a glimpse of a culture and natural environment as yet unchanged by the modern world.  Towering mountains, primeval forests, steppe and desert remain untamed, and nomads continue to tend their horses, sheep and camels and to build seasonal communities of gers (circular felt tents).  Foreign visitors totalled only 201,153 in 2003 with Ulaanbaatar as the primary destination.  The Mongolian Tourism Board reports that 39 per cent of visitors also travel to Terelj, where many treks into the Mongolian wilderness begin.

Rates and collateral material along with the website will be available later this fall, in the meantime please bookmark the hotel's website where additional information will be posted as it becomes available.  For more information visit www.tereljhotel.com

5) The Last Best Place on Earth

There is a place on earth, as yet significantly unspoiled by Western Civilization.  A protected place, where travelers have only been freely granted access since 1992.  Today, deep inside a national park, on the banks of a historic river and under the watchful eye of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, you can experience this place.  In utmost comfort and style.

Mongolia: Land of Chinggis Khaan

Mongolia was once the centre of the most powerful empire the world had ever seen, ruled by the brilliant and terrifying Chinggis Khaan.  The Chinese emperors built the Great Wall of China to protect their kingdom from his military might.  In fact, the Great Khaan's birthplace is said to be near to the site of the Hotel, in the Khaan Khentee Protected Area.  Archeologists are still searching for his burial site, a search that proceeds at a stately pace, slowed by the Mongolian belief that the ground is sacred and should not be disturbed. Whenever the burial site of the Great Chinggis Khaan is finally discovered, it will be a day of great celebration in Mongolia, as the people are fiercely proud of his memory.

Chinggis Khaan was the great unifier, who brought all the tribes together to create the empire of Mongolia.  He accomplished many things in his lifetime, but perhaps his greatest achievement was immortality, as even today, many hundreds of years later, his name is spoken still.

History is Alive in Mongolia

A country four times the size of Japan, and six times the size of Britain, Mongolia is referred to as the Land of Blue Sky. Over towering mountains, through forest, steppe and deserts, Mongolia is a wild and predominantly untamed place.  In fact, much has remained unchanged since the time of the Khaans.  Nomads tend their horses, sheep and camels, and build seasonal communities of gers, circular tent structures designed to withstand the powerful winds that sweep across the plains.

Mongolian Buddhism was inherited from Tibet, and permeates the lives of most Mongolians.  Mongolian Buddhism follows the Gelupga or "Yellow Hat" order of Tibetan Buddhism, of which the Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader.  There are temples and museums in Ulaanbaatar that highlight this fascinating tradition, including the Bogdkhan Palace Museum and the Gandantegchinlen Monastery.  All are well worth visiting.  Discovering ancient roadside shrines, historic temples and age-old monasteries will be a highlight of your travels in this ancient country.

"Man's joy is in wide open spaces."
